SA/Namibia 2011 - Day 3. Kalk Bay to Vanrhynsdorp.

Day 3 and we were a little sad to leave Kalk Bay and the lovely people at Chartfield Guesthouse.

"Goodbye Kalk Bay"

"Goodbye Chartfield"

En route to Vanrhynsdorp - this is just south of Tulbagh .........

......... where we stopped for a drink and a pizza. Finally we get some warmth from the sun!

Tulbagh is a picturesque place. The Cape Dutch buildings are very beautiful.

We would have liked to spend more time in Tulbagh, but the road north beckoned. There was still some way to go to our accommodation at Vanrhynsdorp so we reluctantly headed out of town towards Citrusdal and Clanwilliam.

The R44 took us towards Piketberg, but near Porterville our Asphalt Adviser noticed tarmac heading due north! So we joined the N7 at Citrusdal and saved a few kms/minutes! I must have walked across the road to photograph this because (as you will know) we were approaching the N7 from the east and therefore had to make a right turn towards Clanwilliam.

There was a fatal accident southbound on the N7, involving a motorbike and (it seemed) a car. The ambulance was already there and patently no help was required from us. There but for the .................

At about 17h00 we pulled up at Aan't Dorpseind (click) and a wonderfully warm welcome from Heila. Heila even provided some refreshment of the KWV and Castle persuasion AND lent us her husband's pick-up truck to get to the restaurant she had booked for us. What a lady! And what a brilliantly comfortable and joyful overnight stay! I would like very much to go back there sometime a.s.a.p.

Distance Today: 416 kilometers. 259 miles.
Total Trip: 531 kilometers. 330 miles.
